Dementia Action Week 16 - 20 May 2022 - Summary
The teams from Older Person’s Mental Health Services, Manx DeCaf, Alzheimer’s Society and Hospice Admiral Nurses undertook a dementia awareness roadshow over five venues across the Island. The weather wasn’t too kind on some days, but we still managed to speak to 500 people over the course of the week. We also raised £600 over the week which was split between Manx Decaf, Alzheimer’s Society and the Forget Me Not Trust who fund the Admiral Nurse Service.
Key topics: Mixture of people worried about their memory; prevention tips and advice; how to get a diagnosis and what support services are available from all key agencies and how we work together to make things as smooth as possible for people with dementia and their loved ones.
We had some great singing from school choirs (thank you) and the Rolling Tones choir (thankyou ladies). Piano playing and singing in Castletown went down well and people really benefited from chatting with the whole team and discussing any worries or concerns they may have.
It was great working with the wider team of professionals and seeing how we all interlink to support people with dementia and their families.
