Meet Lisa Callister, a Hospice Shop employee who’s making a difference every day!
To round off our #HospiceShopHeroes stories, we wanted to showcase the team behind the shops. Those whose passion and commitment ensure that our shops provide a valuable service to the community while raising vital funds for Hospice Isle of Man.
What’s your role and how long have you been at Hospice?
I am Store Supervisor for Duke and Strand Street store, and I have been in the role for just over 1 year now.
What does a typical day look like for you?
There is no typical day in Hospice Shops. Every day is different and that’s what I really enjoy about my job. Of course, there is the same daily tasks that need to be achieved like making sure the shops are clean, tidy and well stocked for a busy day of selling. But Hospice Shops are different to the rest of the high street, a typical high street shop will know what deliveries the have coming and exactly what will be on those deliveries so they can plan ahead. We never know what we are going to get and we are constantly adapting depending on what donations come in.
What’s your favourite thing about working for Hospice?
The people. Especially working with the volunteers! It’s amazing to work alongside people who really want to give their time to make our stores special in order to raise much needed funds for a great cause. Every volunteer has their own personal reasons for volunteering and learning these reasons is very humbling and makes me want to give back more!
How do you feel you are contributing to the wider community and the work delivered by Hospice.
I really try to achieve the best possible standards for the stores I look after, and I really want them to not only be a welcoming place where the wider community like to come and shop and spend their well-earned money. But ultimately, I want the stores to raise as much money as we can to enable Hospice to continue to provide the quality care they do for our community.
Share a highlight or a favourite memory from your time at Hospice!
Raising over £35,000 over the TT fortnight. We worked hard and long hours to turn our Duke Street store into a motorsport merchandise store. It was hard work but very rewarding as we raised a fantastic amount. And the feedback we got from visitors and local was great!
Thank you Lisa, and to all our wonderful team members!
