Each of our teams hold a vital piece of the puzzle in making up Hospice Isle of Man.
Our People and Culture Team focuses on the employee journey and experience, from recruiting through to ongoing training and development. Our People and Culture Team are made up of a few individuals in different teams who help make Hospice what it is. They also had a huge part to play in us winning ‘Employer of the Year’ at the 2024 Media IOM Awards for Excellence!
Let’s get to know Carla Quick, Niomi Phillips, Anne Shorrock and Gina Fleming a bit better...
What do the team do?
"The People & Culture role at Hospice is about being here to support the wider Hospice team and help towards making Hospice a great place to work. We take care of our people so they can support and take care of our patients and their families. Our support starts at the beginning with recruitment, onboarding, training and wellbeing. We are also the team that our colleagues can come for a safe place to chat and receive support when they need it – emotional or work related. There is always a sympathetic ear, cup of tea or even a hug waiting for them should they need it."
What does a day look like in your roles?
"The People & Culture team support all areas of Hospice so our day varies quite a lot. Our normal day consists of being in the office working on people related projects, supporting our managers making sure that the Payroll entries are ready for our finance team, co-ordinating training or being in meetings. On the flipside we could be covering one of our reception desks when our volunteers can’t come in, helping in Elaine’s Café when it’s busy and you’ll often see Anne at weekends on the coffee van at one of our events or out and about at other events supporting Hospice. What our Hospice team can always rely on is one of us being around to help."
What’s your favourite thing about working at Hospice?
"Our roles are something we all enjoy doing and although we are one of the smaller teams, one of our favourite things is that we are involved in supporting teams across the whole of Hospice one way or another."
Share a highlight story or a favourite memory from your time at Hospice.
"We have quite a few favourite memories at Hospice; Hospice team taking part in the Jerusalema challenge in 2021, our team Christmas decoration competitions, quizzes, baking competitions, fitness challenges, volunteering at our events raising vital funds and meeting members of the Island who support Hospice. Our most recent amazing achievement and memory is Hospice being recognized as a finalist for the Awards for Excellence 2024 ‘Employer of the year award’’ and winning our category! We were truly humbled that we won. It takes a special type of person to work for Hospice and, whether an employee or a volunteer, every team member at Hospice deserves an employer who takes great care of them – that’s ultimately what the People and Culture team are here for."
