A lovely story to share with you all, just before Christmas!
Following the appointment of Tim Shallcross onto our Board of Governors, Tim recently volunteered at the Hospice Superstore, where he was put through his paces with the delivery and collection team with two of our drivers, Alec and Peter. Tim tells us about his time:
"It was a humbling experience chatting to both staff members and volunteers of the Superstore, understanding more about their roles and how they go the extra mile for the charity.
Two stories stuck to mind …
I was told how there are some people who will buy furniture from the warehouse and then ask for it to be collected a couple of weeks later just so they have somebody visit them and have a chat with them. The drivers are more than just drivers - they are the face of Hospice on a daily basis and are out there daily putting smiles of people’s faces and giving people company they strive for (in addition to collecting and delivery furniture all over the Island).
Secondly, you may have noticed some lego sets in the shops recently which was down to a recent incredibly generous and large donation. Behind the scenes, there is a volunteer who offered to go through each of the lego sets, re-building them piece by piece and identify any with missing pieces. They have compiled a list and then requested the missing piece be sent from Lego Denmark."
Thank you to Tim for taking the time to get to know our Hospice Shops staff and volunteers at this busy time of year
