"I would like to express a huge thank you for all the help provided to Paul and myself from your team. The therapies are amazing and help us both a great deal.  It assists greatly with relaxation, and just being able to chill on this journey is much needed.  Being shown massage techniques so I can use at home has been a massive help to Paul and me equally. Once again thank you for all your help, you have been amazing."

Complementary therapies can support our physical and emotional health in every phase of life. Every day we witness the positive effects of the treatments we provide for our patients and their families.

The therapies we offer can support you in so many ways, such as helping to ease specific symptoms, improving your mood or helping you to relax.

Some of the greatest benefits include:

  • Reduction in pain and other symptoms
  • Lessening feelings of stress and anxiety
  • Promotion of a sense of wellbeing

After discussion with our team, treatments are personalised to suit your needs, often incorporating aspects of multiple therapies and other relaxation techniques.

Treatments can take place either in our lovely treatment rooms or in your in-patient bedroom.

The therapies we offer:

Aromatherapy

This treatment works using essential oils extracted from plants, via inhalation, application or via massage to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.

Massage

These treatments range from shorter simple treatments which can be through clothing/without using oils through to a full body massage. Your treatment will be suitable and appropriate for you.

Aromaflexology

Reflex points on the feet are stimulated by applying specific massage and pressure techniques incorporating essential oils to bring about relaxation in corresponding areas of the body.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese method of treating illness. According to the Chinese philosophy we all have energy or Qi (chi) moving in channels around the body. These should be free flowing and equally balanced. If the channels become blocked then pain or illness develops.

Acupuncture needles are very fine needles which are inserted into points on the skin which
encourage the Qi to flow freely again. Modern medical views are that acupuncture works by altering the pain relieving chemicals in the body.

Cognitive Relaxation

Anxiety is the body’s normal reaction to a stressful event, triggering the ‘flight or fight’
response as muscles tense, the heart beats faster and breathing quickens. Relaxation techniques teach patients to gain a greater sense of control over the feelings associated with anxiety.

Reiki

This is a method of natural healing simply involving hands being placed in sequence either on or just above your fully clothed body.

Making an appointment

Treatments are available for in-patients, out-patients and day unit service users. You can be referred to this service either by one of our staff or another medical professional involved in your care.

Carers

If you are a carer for one of our patients you can also access these therapies and can be referred by Hospice staff. Carers find their treatments very supportive and provide some important ‘me-time’.

We also offer a short introductory course ‘Helping Hands’ which is taught by our complementary therapists. This will help you to provide safe, simple massage and relaxation for the patient and also introduce you to some simple ways to use aromatherapy. Just ask one of our staff about getting referred.
